Tyrolean Festival Erl – winter festival | 26th December 2019 to 6th January 2020

Founded in 1997, the Tyrolean Festival Erl has been taking place every year in July since 1998. Until a weatherproof festival hall was opened in December 2012, the festival was held in the Passion Play House. The summer season of the Tyrolean Festival Erl is complemented by the winter festival. Since then, every year around Christmas musical pleasures can be enjoyed for two weeks. In addition to this winter festival there are performances in the time between. In summer, the Passion Play House is still used as a concert hall for the festival.

The programme in Erl is opened by Bach. Bach is the alpha and omega of musical thinking. The traditional Christmas oratorio as an atmospheric precursor that continues with the second day of Christmas, the start of the winter season. Pre-Christmas Tyrolean musical tradition. This year, the programme not only includes chamber music but also two operas by Dvorak & Kvapil as well as Donizetti & Romani.

Passionsspiele Passion Plays Thiersee

The traditional “Passion Plays” have been shown in our small town since 1799. Every six years the people of Thiersee manage to bring the final days of Christ to the stage in a very impressive way. 2022 is at last the year to make it happen again. Over 250 inhabitants of Thiersee spanning all age groups are involved in making the production a success.
