We are committed to the principles of gentle tourism and do our best to adjust our economic, ecologic and social affairs in a way that does not compromise our integrity.
We freely admit that sustainability is a long and arduous process and that Hotel Juffing is only at the beginning of this path. Even setbacks, such as the non-realisation of a pellet heating system (after some back and forth modern heating technology was installed in November 2011) or the local decision not to construct a wood-chip heating system for four hotels and a school in the village, do not deter us from looking into the future and continuing on our chosen path.
What does sustainability mean for us at Hotel Juffing?
For our family run business, responsibility in our actions plays an important role. We do our best to base our decisions on aspects of sustainability, but we have to acknowledge that majorities have the last word in democratic societies and that we have to accept these majority decisions, even when they do not appear to follow the principles of sustainability. Our motto is: “Be the change that you want to see in the world.”
Most of the ingredients used by the kitchen staff at Hotel Juffing is regional and organic. We pay special attention to seasonal products. Our regional engagement was rewarded with the “Bewusst-Tirol” mindfulness award for businesses in Innsbruck in November 2011. We are especially proud of our certification as a partially organic business (AT-BIO-301), in addition to which we were awarded the Green Toque quality seal, which has been awarded to certified organic restaurants and hotels that provide a broad range of vegetarian dishes for their guests by the Styria vitalis since 1990. We do not offer pre-packed items at the buffet (jams come in jars, butter is freshly cut, cream cheeses are served in porcelain cups, etc.).
Regional suppliers and partners of Hotel Juffing
Wo The spa products used at Hotel Juffing come from the cosmetics company Vinoble from Styria and are free from emulsifiers, preservatives, perfumes, mineral oils, silicones, colouring agents and amines. We use organic oils from Pino for our massage treatments. We do not use products with animal components, such as marmot ointment. At our spa, we wish to provide treatments that are good for our guests; however, we are not healers and leave this area of expertise to trained physicians.

Our drinking water is unique. In addition, we provide vitalised Grander Water throughout the entire spa area and our restaurant free of charge.
We use materials from renewable resources for the interior and the exterior of our hotel. The highly efficient insulation (all building frontages are insulated by multi-layer insulation systems, while the triple-glazed windows are also very effective at insulating) and our economic use of Thiersee spring water clearly reflect our dedication to energy efficiency. All 46 hotel rooms, suites, hallways and other public rooms are equipped with LED and energy-saving lamps (with the exception of two pool lights and the Kartell lamps in rooms of the Sissi category). Plans to switch lighting in the restaurant from regular lamps to LED are already underway. 91% of our energy supply comes from renewable sources.
Heating and hot water
We employ cutting-edge heating technology. The boiler efficiency is at 97%. With the help of a 70 m² solar system on the roof of the new building we save a lot of precious fuel. Our swimming pools are heated by recycling lost heat from the entire hotel (waste heat recovery). We do not have heaters in the outdoor areas. We do our best to conserve resources in our entire production, business and service processes by using innovative methods, products, materials and technologies. We save precious water by installing aerators into our washbasins, toilets and showers, and we exclusively use single lever mixer controls.
Hotel’s own laundry shop
We wash all of our laundry (table cloths/bedsheets/towels) in a resource-saving way in the hotel’s own laundry shop, which allows us to avoid long distance transportation. Careful treatment of textiles also increases their longevity and preserves their value.
Natural finish furniture
Since December 2010, we have offered two rooms that are fully appointed with stone pine furniture and a stone pine floor. The room is appointed with natural finish stone pine wood. All other rooms are appointed with furniture made out of local maple, ash and nut wood.
Environmentally friendly printing materials
We choose to communicate with our guests by using only uncoated, environmentally certified and climate-neutral recycled offset paper made from 100% recycled fibres.
Waste separation at Hotel Juffing
We frequently train our employees in waste reduction and separation. We pay special attention to ordering products with recyclable instead of disposable packaging from our suppliers.
E-mobility at Hotel Juffing
Hotel Juffing has also had some innovative ideas regarding sustainable mobility: our parking garage provides refuelling stations for electric cars, while hotel guests can borrow mountain bikes and e-bikes free of charge to explore the picturesque hotel surroundings. Tesla drivers can now use our Tesla Destination Charger free of charge (Tesla Connector, up to 14kW)
To ensure that Hotel Juffing attracts only the best employees, providing excellent employee accommodation is one of our key aims at the moment.
On our website, you will find tips and recommendations for your arrival by train. In future, we will support all guests who travel to Hotel Juffing by train or bicycle (please don’t laugh, many of our guests from Bavaria or Innsbruck come by bike) with our Green Spa Bonus (a voucher for spa treatments worth 10 cents per kilometre of train or bicycle travel, rounded up to the nearest whole number in Euros).
We are convinced that success in business is impossible without considering sustainability. Our guests appreciate our environmentally friendly, sustainable range of offers, and we are proud of numerous certifications and awards to back up our claims.
In winter 2015, our engagement with the field of sustainability was rewarded with the Austrian and European Ecolabel. In addition to this certification, we have been awarded the following certifications and awards.
