SUMMER CULTURE NEAR THE HOTEL

KULTURA 2024

For decades, plays, readings and music have been performed live here each summer – both at the fortress as well as in the chic Festspielhaus. An interesting fusion of nature and culture in the middle of the Alps inspires visitors enjoying a “lazy summer” under the shade of an umbrella.

Creative artists create space for conversation, well-being and reflection.
Thank you!

In the open air museum you will find buildings of old Tyrolean folk architecture. A tour will take you back to the life and work of days long past that dominated life in Tyrol for a long time. Middle Ages in Rattenberg

Walk through the picturesque small town at the Inn river with its ancients streets and the medieval cityscape, visit the fortress ruin at the castle mountain. The glass specialist shops there are especially worth visiting - a unique opportunity to look over the shoulders of glass blowers, cutters and painters at their creative work.

Organic cheese dairies in Niederndorf

Many guests ask for regional organic products. We recommend the BIO organic cheese dairy Hatzenstädt in Niederndorferberg where cheese has been produced for over 70 years GMO-free and without additives and the cattle of the mountain farmers only get organic food (also open on Sunday mornings, per car via Kufstein, Ebbs, then towards Walchsee and in the village part of Sebi towards the left up to Aschau in 20 min). Or you stop already earlier on the route in Niederndorf and visit the rock cellar of the BIO cheese dairy Plangger that is known far and wide for its organic hay milk cheese specialties. And those who would like to can make a detour to the nearby wildlife park!

Passion Plays Thiersee & Erl
Thiersee with hills and meadow

Since 1799, the small town of Thiersee has put on a traditional Passion Play. Every six years, the residents of Thiersee bring the last days of Christ’s life to the stage in a grand way. The last performance took place from June to October 2022 with the help of 250 Thierseers of all ages. The next Thiersee Passion Play will be held in 2028. Learn more here.

Located just a 30-minute drive from Thiersee, the village of Erl is the oldest passion play location in the German-speaking region. Since 1613, around 600 amateur actors from Erl’s 1,450 residents have performed the passion play there every six years as an offer of thanks for God’s protection and help from illness, plague and the danger of war! The next Passion Play in Erl will be held in 2025 at the Passion Play House. Built exclusively for the performance of the Passion Play, this venue accommodates up to 1,500 visitors and features unique architecture and acoustics. The script was revised by Felix Mitterer. More information can be found here.

Tyrolean Festival in Erl

Far away from the big cities, a fertile ground for culture has been developing in nearby Erl for over twenty years in the midst of the most beautiful natural landscape: against the breathtaking backdrop of the Kaiser Mountains, renowned artists from all over the world dedicate themselves with great passion to canonised and unknown works of classical music and music theatre - mainly in the summer and winter seasons, but also at Thanksgiving, as part of the Piano Days and during ‘Zwischen/Zeit’. Erl, which has been culturally shaped by the 400-year history of the Passion Play, thus becomes a place where artistic ability and high standards are combined in a special atmosphere to create unique concert and music theatre experiences! Hans Peter Haselsteiner is President of the Tyrolean Festival Erl. Jonas Kaufmann will take over the directorship of the Tiroler Festspiele Erl on 1 September 2024.

Here you can find the programme.
