In the land of the mountains

A wonderful valley with pronounced seasons and diverse possibilities to be active and to recreate during forest bathing.

The power lies in silence.

Located between Kufstein and Bayrischzell, Thiersee is a wholly unknown region with manifold landscapes. You will experience undiscovered flora and fauna in such diversity and fascination that we even have named our fine dining menus after them. Only think of the orchid meadow below the Kala Alm or the wildly romantic Kaiserklamm.

Trained nature guides will accompany you in the course of our Reflect & Restart programme or the activity programme of the tourism association Kufsteinerland and lead you to high waterfalls cascading down from rocks and deep ravines digging their way through the valleys.

Let leisure reign

The Thiersee, the idyllic lake which gave its name to the village, will invite you to take a break after a hike or dive into the cool wet element. Numerous further lakes in the surroundings lie wonderfully embedded in the landscape. In winter, ice skaters will draw artful lines on the shining ice, in summer they will serve as a romantic magnet for walkers and runners.

The majestic Kaiser mountains or the Brandenberger Allps will inspire you to tours in all levels of difficulty or simply to wonder and discover. Original forests and the chance to be able to watch rare wild animals such as wood grouses, chamoises or marmots are our natural jewels. It is quiet and not crowded, during hiking you will encounter nobody for hours except for squirrels, rabbits and shy deers.

The Thierseetal is different.

For many people, Tyrol and the mountain railways go hand in hand. Hop on the gondola, ride up, and set off on a hike from the top. It’s a comfortable experience and is superbly organised in many holiday regions.

We don’t have a large cable car here that runs up the mountain right through the centre of the village. Whilst this may sound like a drawback at first, there’s another side to it that we really appreciate here in Juffing: Where there are no large cable car systems, there is no need for huge valley stations or car parks. There is less day-trip and through traffic, no crowds arriving in the morning and leaving again in the afternoon, no large trail parks and less tourist hustle and bustle.

The Thierseetal has retained some of its unspoilt character

Those who wish to go hiking here can often simply set off from the hotel door, but anyone expecting the widest possible choice of cable cars, mountain stations and tourist facilities right on their doorstep won’t quite find what they’re looking for in the Thierseetal. Of course, you don’t have to miss out on the great Tyrolean mountains. Around Kufstein and in the neighbouring regions, there are numerous cable cars and well-known destinations for a day trip. We’d like to mention the Kaiserlift in Kufstein, the Wendelsteinbahn in Bayrischzell and the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental, with access points in Söll, Ellmau and Scheffau, amongst others. Afterwards, it’s back to Hinterthiersee. And perhaps that’s when you’ll realise just how pleasant it is when the gondola doesn’t stop right on your doorstep.

The Other Tyrol

We don’t see the Thierseetal as an alternative that’s lacking something. Rather, we see it as a conscious choice for a different kind of holiday in the mountains. Less developed. Less staged. And that is precisely why it is so pleasantly peaceful.

Naturalness and sustainability

Because of the beauty of our surrounding landscape we support a sustainable touristic development. Already the photos by the Thiersee hunter and wildlife photographer Josef Kirchmair show us an animal diversity in our valley which we couldn't imagine.

Handling our nature in a resource-friendly way is very important to us and we observe that also guests who visit us more than once in Hinterthiersee are sensitised for the developments in the valley.

Our efforts for touristic sustainability

Strengthen your connection to nature and to yourself by taking a deep breath or consciously closing your eyes in the Modalwald forest. What perhaps was in turmoil becomes quiet and clear.
